What a Minimalist Design Trend Would Look Like on Shelves

I’ve talked before about how we’re in an era of mass customization and eventually society will turn toward minimalism as a way to challenge aesthetics and make consumerism more sustainable. I’m still hedging my bets on that movement, and I’ve started to notice a few indications that it’s happening. Just look at the new style of TV network promos on NBC and Adult Swim to see how cheesy special effects are being abandoned in favor of careful color palettes and 2D typography.
But what would that future look like extended to the shevles? Design consultancy firm Antrepo recently published an experiment with minimalist design in common snack/beverage packaging.
