However even there I'm deeply sceptical about the “IT-as-change” image, fidelity 401k since in my experience technology alone never changes an organization, the organizational will to change has to be there first (although this may be driven by the effective IT use of competitors).

Hi Geoff,

We’re pushing it forwards, meeting with potential partners and lawyers and all that sort of good stuff. Hope to have an update shortly but it’s definitely progressing.

Very cool idea. Where I live in Northfield, Minn., we’ve talked about wanting to have this kind of thing. Ride-sharing has come up from people who commute to and from the Cities, and stuff-sharing has come up in several venues I participate in (church and civic). read a year or two ago about something like this already existing in a smaller community somewhere (I think) in Germany.
funny thing was: as people do offer lending stuff etc. and get points to spent in return, it is basically tax evasion and the authorities started investigating a way of taxing it. that’s why it stuck in my mind…
