Stumbled across this but what a good post. I really think there is some overlap with Lee Maschemeyer and his thinking on transformational design. Worth a look if time permits.

why not invite people to suggest new services that support your argument. I'll have a think too.

Put them all together (wiki doc?) and create a basic 'package' to adopt a thing-light, experience-heavy lifestyle.

Maybe choose a theme per month: music; sport; food; art.

Not sure on the tech part - the iCal thing was just an initial thought.

Obviously this thing is in danger of attracting businesses to self-promote, but if a group of people votes on the service then I don't think it matters.

Maybe we'll find out that not many of these things exist yet. But perhaps that will just make it clearer what the opportunities are.

Did that answer your question?

Really good post Adrian. May I suggest moving this on a step on by producing a practical guide to making this lifestyle more of a reality?

Perhaps get other people on board, compile a pragmatic list of ways to move from 'things' to richer experiences.
Maybe even produce an iCal/Sunbird calendar people can download as a week by week prompter.

What do you think?

(I've got a 'do' mentality at the moment. Something to do with blogging aimlessly and theorizing rather than making)

A
