More on a personal media server.
It’s either Kismet or the fact that this Friday has been going particularly well for me so far, but Boing Boing just posted the above video of a speech by Danny O’Brien of the EFF talking about hosting your own Twitter/Facebook/Etc. server, or exactly the sort of thing I was going on about a few days back.
The video is a bit shaky but it’s worth listening to this speech – it’s an entertaining and eye-opening presentation about why and more importantly how one might go about putting up your own server. The speech cuts off early but the slides are here.
Also fascinating is the pointer to Indenti.ca which at first glance appears to be just another Twitter clone, but which also offers the ability for users to take the code and set up their own Twitter servers.
Would love to hear if anyone has actually done this yet and how it works.
