Piling on…mass negativity.

As if the 2012 logo didn’t have enough trouble, the latest news is that the animated version of it had to be pulled due to its uncanny ability to spark seizures in epileptic viewers. According to the Guardian, 8 people had suffered seizures upon viewing a 5 second version.
This logo is accumulating new memes at an astonishing rate, all of them bad:
It offends design purists
It offends Londoners
It’s 400K sterling price tag makes great fodder for culture jammers
It offends Olympics nostalgics
It is seen as reminiscent of Nazi symbols
It’s provided endless material for humorists and curmudgeonly bloggers
It’s brought in Simpson’s fans
And so on..
As a result, it has the classic profile of an idea that can spread quickly across many different social groups. An almost too perfect example of being able to offend almost everyone and a real bargain for the price.
